Strategic Land Planning on the Pine RIdge Reservation

Video of Village Earth's strategic land planning initiative on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Sponsored by the Native run Indian Land Tenure Foundation, the initiative was focused on educating Native land owners on the options that exist for consolidating and utilizing their fractionated and undivided lands on the Reservation. This problem is a direct outgrowth of the US General Allotment Act of 1887. This act divided Indian lands into individual individual allotments across the United States and imposed a European-style land tenure system on what was before, communally managed lands.
